NYC - To Life! Honoring Sheldon Harnick

  • Pershing Square Theatre (map)

We’re happy to announce that our 2019 Gala celebrating Sheldon Harnick––one of the major contributors to musical theater and the American Songbook––is shaping up to be an evening of pure joyous entertainment. Sheldon Harnick’s lyrics have given voice to a milkman in Tsarist Russia, pen pals who happen to be co-workers in a parfumarie in Budapest, the founder of a banking dynasty in Germany, a mayor in New York City, and many more, most set to the music of his long-time collaborator, the late Jerry Bock.

Mr. Harnick has won two Tony Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, a Grammy Award, and has received a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, the Drama League Award for Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre, and a Special Lifetime Achievement Award from The Outer Critics Circle. In recognition of his indelible contribution to the American Songbook, the American Songbook Association will add its 2019 ASA Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Harnick’s honors presented at the ASA’s fundraising Gala on Monday, September 16 in The Romulus Linney Courtyard at The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street in NYC.
